Drove 345 miles today through the Nevada high desert, spectacular. Made it to the only state camp around just before dusk. i am now enjoying my gourmet tomato soup and what rice and salmon Donner didn't take from me, sitting in the dark with headlamps, the moon breaking through the clouds, a gentle, cool breeze coming off the big lake we are camped on. Only one other tenter somewhere in the entire camp, located 24 miles from town, 5000 feet elevation. Rachmaninov's variations on the theme of Paganini playing quietly on my iPad. Donner lying on his bed next to the picnic table enjoying the setting, while keeping his eyes out for coyotes (photo), whose cries can be heard in the distance.
Sure beats the chaos in Washington.
