Day 10, Monday, 10/01, 11:30 am, Sundance, Wyoming

I returned to the Sinclair garage at 10:30 and the manager Tailee was there. She nicely agreed to take the Defender in at 1:00 today. Good news. I researched the electrical wiring in Section 86, page 63 of the Workshop Manual for the Defender, which i carry with me, and the problem appears to be with the L1 switch in the below diagram that is effecting the high/low bean switch L3. When the exact same problem occurred before I left, my mechanic saw the the L1 switch failed and so he repaired it. He also installed a separate relay (see L2) for the L3 switch to take pressure off the l1 switch. Apparently, the repair failed. Perhaps the solder broke off on the rough roads i took. Fortunately, I am carrying new L1 and L3 switches and several L2 relays with me in my 60-pound garage container, among many other spare parts. If this indeed is the remedy, had i not had them with me, i would have lost at least three more days. But i might have had the parts shipped to a Fedex office further down the road and had a mechanic install them there.

Standy later for either good news or bad news. Fortunately, the weather is beautiful here today and both Donner and I are appreciating the respite from driving 300 miles. Fortunately also, I finally found a wonderful cafe in the center of town that makes great coffee and delicious fresh cinnamon buns. I could not give Donner any, so I treated him to a half pound of roast beef instead, more suitable for someone with his teeth.
